I have been thinking about writing this post for a while, and I thought it might interest and maybe inspire some of you to see how I display portraits in my home.  Everyone has their own style and I love to see how others decorate and display photos/make photo walls. I find it really interesting and it then inspires me to maybe try something new.  I also have to admit that I used pinterest to help me with 2 out of 3 of these.  I just love that site. (If you don't know what pinterest is you must Google it now!  I should also add that I am sorry because you will now likely be hooked....possibly for hours.)

Anyway let's get started. These first two photos are in my entry when you first come through our side door into the kitchen.  I took them this past August for my sons 2 year photo shoot.  You will notice that they are not framed. I was really going for a very clean, streamline look for this space.  So instead of ordering a print and framing them, I had the photos mounted on foam core.  I used nations photo lab for the printing and they did a beautiful job. I highly recommend them. Having your photos mounted is super easy, it is just an option you pick at check out. The sizes of these pictures are 16x20, don't be afraid to go bigger than an 8x10 or 11x14. I actually wish I had gone just a little larger with these two.  These were hung with these press in picture hanger things (do you like my technical terminology lol) I got at Michaels, they were short enough to press into the foam core but not puncture all the way through.  I will share that if I had to do it again I think I might try Velcro or some of those 3M hangers to hang them instead. 


 


This next display is in our living room on two walls that meet in a corner. For the longest time I could not figure out what to do with this space.  I searched and searched pinterest for photo wall ideas and found this set up that I really liked. I thought it might look nice doing two side by side like this so I gave it a try and love how it came out!  The hardest part was choosing which photos to display.  Again I decided on the no frame route, my husband then measured and hung each one so they were perfectly spaced (love him!).  I used three different sizes, the square ones are 12x12, the vertical ones are 9x12 and the horizontals are 6x8.  Not traditional sizes but they worked for my space and again I wish I had gone just slightly bigger.  You can really do any sizes that will suit your individual wall space. 

P.S.  Don't mind that one weird piece of unpainted trim, it was replaced oh 3+ months ago but still has not been painted lol




This last set is in my daughters room.  We had these photos taken for her fifth birthday. On Facebook I saw that another local photographer was offering winter mini sessions a few days after her birthday so we booked one and it was so much fun.  Once I received the photos I knew I wanted to do something different with them for her room, so again I searched pinterest and found an idea to mount them on wooden plaques, genius!  I ordered these wooden plaques from hobby lobby online they were very inexpensive, then I painted them with sample paints I had laying around.  I printed the photos (2) 4x6 and (2) 5x7 and then attached them with mod podge and that was it (I had never used mod podge before and it was really easy, my tip to you would be to use a lot of it when covering the picture, I didn't on one of them and you can see it is bubbling up a little around the edge).  When I was done I had a simple, cute, fun and easy way to display her photos.
